My name is Philip Barnard. I am a multidisciplinary designer in Oakland, California. I run half marathons, enjoy lawn bowling, baseball, and ballet. Before choosing to pursue my BFA in design, I planned on studying Civil Engineering. I graduated with honors from the California College of the Arts (CCA) in 2017.

My past roles involve using design as a tool to support culture, and education to expose people to new ideas, artists, and experiences. Recently I’ve been freelancing at Adobe. In my last job, I was an in-house designer at the California Academy of Sciences. I was the design lead for NightLife, opened new exhibits, and updated the brand and design systems of the museum. Previously I have been a designer at PSY/OPS, where I designed bespoke fonts. At CCA, I designed marketing collateral for college events. I explored my interests in museums as docent and gallery manager at the Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts, where I helped support public programming for up-and-coming fine artists.

I recently wrote an article about high school art teacher and his influence on my path, and a Q&A with some staircase thoughts on design.
